Un Gunner (aussi parfois appelé « shooter ») est un joueur de football américain qui évolue dans l'équipe spéciale. Il est chargé, lors des kickoffs et des punts, de courir le plus vite possible vers le « kick returner » ou le « punt returner » pour le plaquer le plus tôt possible. Les gunners doivent posséder diverses techniques pour éviter les plaqueurs adverses et être très agiles pour changer la direction de leur course très rapidement.


La plupart des gunners jouent également aux postes de Safety, Cornerback ou Wide receiver quand ils n'évoluent pas dans l'équipe spéciale.


Le terme gunner peut également faire référence au joueur chargé de bloquer le gunner de l'équipe qui effectue le coup de pied.


En France, on parle plus généralement de chasseur pour désigner les joueurs évoluant à ce poste.
