Résumé |


Le sergent Barbara Havers vient en aide à son voisin et ami Taymullah Azar, dont la fille, Hadiyyah, a disparu, enlevée par sa mère. Mais où sont-elles parties ? Barbara et Azar engagent un détective privé afin de démêler l'énigme. Au bout d'un certain temps, l'enfant est kidnappée en Italie, à Lucques.


Angelina, la mère de Hadiyyah, arrive à Londres pour s'en prendre à Azar, qu'elle accuse d'enlèvement. Le groupe repart pour l'Italie et l'inspecteur Thomas Lynley leur servira d'agent de liaison.


La petite fille est retrouvée dans un couvent. Mais qui est responsable ? En attendant, Barbara agira de façon illégale afin de protéger son ami car Angelina meurt, assassinée, et tout accuse Azar.
